Learn To Cut Your Losses

cut your lossesSometimes in life, you have to cut your losses and move on. It may not seem that way at the time, but in the long run you will realize that it was the best decision you made.

This happened to me recently.

I had paid a considerable amount of money investing in an online radio show. It seemed very promising at first and granted, it quite possibly may have ended up fitting the promises. However as time went by it became a struggle for me. My passion began to dwindle.

It became apparent that this wasn’t really what I had in mind. But I had all this money I had invested. I wanted to at least recoup some of that money through possible sponsorship or products being sold.

After much soul searching and prayer I decided to end the show. It was a huge burden lifted off my shoulders. I could have stayed with it because of the one year dollar commitment but what was more important – the money or my sanity and overall health? My sanity and my health won.

I have to realize that I have to put my energy into things that fits me and my passion. I have to also realize that God can give me greater return as I keep my peace and focus on him and not be distracted because of trying to fit something where it doesn’t.

Did I fail? No, no, no … this was an education moment. I learned. This happened to king Amaziah. He had a similar “What about …” question like we all do when it comes to matters like these. Here’s his account:

Amaziah asked the man of God, “But what about all that silver I paid to hire the army of Israel?” The man of God replied, “The Lord is able to give you much more than this!” (2 Chronicles 25:9 NLT). This is the reply that I need to keep in mind.

Therefore to be able to cut your losses, you need to remember that:

  1. You have not failed but have rather learned a valuable lesson
  2. God is guiding your life and will help you find that which fits you – he has now given you a message
  3. Your overall health is more than that which you are “losing”

What’s your thoughts on cutting your losses? What other way could someone look at this decision? Please leave a comment below so I can hear your thoughts on this matter. Thanks
