Who Would Have Ever Thought

EndingEndings are almost always so different from beginnings. Movies. Books. Buildings. These are just a few examples of how endings are so different from beginnings.

People’s lives can be this way as well. I know of so many people who had a very difficult start in life but had endings that has secured a place for them in the annals of history. They refused to end in a similar manner as they started. Their start became an incentive for them to have a different ending. These are the stories that inspires me. I love it when the underdog comes out on top. I love it when the weak finishes strong. I love to hear this statement from those who knew the beginning of a story: “who would have ever thought.”

When I see others overcome all odds and make it in life, it encourages me. It tells me that I can as well. I am one who believes that we have the opportunity to write new chapters in our lives. We can script what we want to see at the end of our book — life. I am a strong believer in this. And why shouldn’t I when I have the God of the universe backing me every step of the way telling me that I can?

The good news is that anyone can have an ending that is so much better than the beginning. It doesn’t matter what your start looked like. Who would have ever thought that shepherd boy – David, would one day become king.

“Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you FROM tending sheep in the pasture and selected you TO be the leader of my people Israel. (2 Samuel 7:8 NLT). Notice the key: God raised him up. He will for you as well.

I’m not sure who authored this statement, but I heard it first from one of my virtual mentor – Zig Ziglar … “You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great.” Another statement I have heard is, “it’s not how you start but how you finish that matters.”

Here are three ways to “Who would have ever thought” ending:

  1. Believe that your end can be better than your beginning
  2. Visualize the best ending and do one thing today that aligns with that ending. You are writing the script now.
  3. Read, watch or listen to someone’s story who finished strong even though their beginning was weak

Make it one of those “who would have ever thought” ending. Pray as if it all depends on God and work as if it all depended on you.
