Learn 5 Valuable Lessons For Success From A Conspirator

conspiratorWho is a conspirator?

It’s someone who plots and schemes with others to commit an illegal act. Maybe your first thought is like mine that says, “who wants to learn anything from someone who wants to do evil.” I get it. But I do believe that we can learn valuable lessons from evil people. As a matter of fact we can learn lessons from anything and everyone. I’ve outlined 5 lessons below; actually it’s really 4 as you will see.

Solomon made the statement that we should go to the ant and learn their ways. They work feverishly to collect food in the summer because winter is coming. Great lesson there I would say. Jesus said the people in darkness are wiser in their generation than those who are called children of light. He implied that there were lessons that we can learn from them.

I think I have made my point that lessons can be learned from anyone and anything.

The Old Testament records the story of Absalom, who conspired to overthrow his father David, as king of Israel. Through a series of events that led to him being in exile, he was eventually allowed to return to his homeland. Once settled, he began the long, tedious and strategic planning (conspiracy) to overthrow his father.

When people tried to bow before him, Absalom wouldn’t let them. Instead, he took them by the hand and kissed them. Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel. (2 Samuel 15:5, 6 NLT).

This he did every morning for four years until he finally got what he wanted. I have to ask myself this question: “Am I this committed to my cause?” Before even asking that question I must know my cause; my dream; my purpose.

Here are the lessons I believe we can learn from Absalom the Conspirator:

  1. Have a cause; a purpose; a dream – something you strongly believe in …keep it in front of you. Don’t let it leave you.
  2. Be committed to that cause, purpose, dream or vision
  3. Work hard and remain focused
  4. Help as many people as possible to get what they want – Absalom didn’t make it about him, he made it about them …he took their hand and kissed them rather than have them bow before him. He listened to them
  5. Repeat 1 through 4 today, tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day and …

What other lesson would you derive from this post? Comment below so we can learn from you.
