If You Don’t Prepare Beforehand, You’ll Kick Yourself After The Fact

SeasonsThere is a season, for everything. It is so important to know what season you are in. There is a season to plant and a season to harvest. A season to laugh and a season to mourn. A season to build and a season to tear down. A season to purchase and a season to sell. A season to eat and a season to – eat (don’t mess wth this season – Lol). We need to know what season we are in.

If we fail to recognize the season of life we could find ourselves missing out or not prepared for the change in season.

In the state that I live – South Florida, we have hurricane season. Every year we are warned to prepare for the season by purchasing non-perishable items such as can food, water, batteries and to make sure we have other basic necessities. We are also told to have our shutters for the windows and any other glass exposed surface nearby.

Most people including myself, do not heed these warnings as we should. This is mainly because we have prepared in the past and no major hurricane or damage has occurred. God forbid that one year the hurricane does come into our area, I would be out of luck; I would be covered with black and blue marks from kicking myself so hard.

Another season, that so many people miss, is the season of change. We are in a changing world and so many people are living in the past world. They refuse to change with technology and the automation process. For some it is scary. Others don’t trust these changes.

Unfortunately, like it or not, it’s coming and in some ways, it’s here. So, knowing the season you are in will lessen the chance of being caught off guard and you won’t have to kick yourself later.

Solomon illustrates the point this way: “A farmer who is too lazy to plough his fields at the right time will have nothing to harvest.” (Proverbs 20:4 GNB)

Position yourself for your harvest. Here are 3 ways to do that:

  1. Keep your eyes open … be on the lookout for how where you are may not be on par with what is happening around you. What are you seeing that says you are falling behind? What are others doing that you feel you should be doing but not?
  2. Keep your ears open … listen to others who are doing what you aren’t doing but want to do – podcasts, audiobooks and other media form. Listen. Listen. Listen.
  3. Keep your feet openmoving (this was what I meant but just trying to keep the flow) … Don’t sit still. You may not be doing what you want to do right now, but still do something. You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great or in this case, be in your season.

What are some other ways a person may miss their season? Please leave a comment below.
