Here Is How Digging Deep Pays Great Dividends

Digging DeeperI have come to believe that nothing is easy that is worth it. If it is worth it, it’s gonna be hard. Have you found that to be true? What have been your experience? Please share below in the comment box.

Where I am in life today has not come easy. I have had to pay a great price. To become a licensed psychotherapist didn’t come easy. It took time, hard work and a whole lot of moolah – dollars. As of this writing I am still paying off student loans and I still have ways to go. Was it worth it? You bet it did.

When I was writing one of my books, I had to sacrifice quite a bit – setting aside time to write, learning as much as I could to publish my book — all that wasn’t easy. Was it worth it? You bet it did. I could go and on but I don’t think I need to convince you.

There are other times in my life that I have had to dig deep to keep on going. Sometimes there were huge challenges along the way, but something deep within me pushed me forward reminding me why I am doing the things I am doing; why I am pursuing my dreams with such fervency. Digging deep is the key to finishing strong.

Not only does it take digging deep to accomplish certain goals but it requires a similar discipline when it comes to communication. As I have stated in previous writing, communication is one of the most prevalent presenting issues in my counseling practice. For there to be a change in communication, I push my clients to dig deep. Listening is the major area that I focus on as I teach them effective listening; how to listen better. When they do make this change, there is a better chance of success in their relationship. Many people do not want to do this kind of digging, it’s too much work they’ll say. No wonder they remain where they are.

Solomon cited the importance of digging deep. Here’s his take: Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook. (Proverbs 18:4 NLT)

When I think of deep waters, I picture a bubbling, refreshing, calming and cooling surrounding. Imagine, that is what going deep provides. This is great a dividend on the effort made to go deep.

Here are three MUSTS to such an experience:

  1. See the importance
  2. Make the commitment
  3. Stay the course

What other musts have you been thinking of as you read this list? I would love to hear your thoughts. Please take a minute and leave a comment in the box provided.
