Apple ValueThere are some people that you would do anything for. You would move mountains if you have to, just to let them know how much they mean to you. There is no doubt in my mind that I would give my life for my wife or my children. They mean a lot to me and are valuable to me. Outside of my immediate family, there are a few people that I may not give my life for, but I would make sacrifices on their behalf. I know that I’m not the only one who would do this. I’m sure you have some people in your life that you would do the same for them.

Why would we make such sacrifices? I believe it can be summed up by this one word … value. What they mean to us and how valuable they are to us.

Some people outside of our immediate family have, by their actions and words, increased their value in our lives. I have a small number of people who fit that criteria. These individuals have brought value to my life. They believed in me and showed it through their words and actions. I would not be where I am today without them. Do you have that person in your life? If you don’t you need to.

David was one of those rear individuals who brought such value to the lives of others that they were willing to do whatever it took to meet a need in his – David’s life. The irony is that David didn’t ask them, they simply overheard his wish.

David remarked longingly to his men, “Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.” So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. (2 Samuel 23:15, 16a NLT) Wow. Imagine that.

I believe David did the following 5 things to bring value to the lives of these men that we too can do and have that kind of response:

  1. He believed in them
  2. He invested time and energy in them
  3. He elevated them in the eyes of others
  4. He supported them
  5. He defended them

The late Zig Ziglar was famous for this statement, “You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Here is that winning strategy: Take the time to add value to the lives of others.

In what way can you add value to someone’s life today or how has someone added value to your life? Please leave a comment in the box below.
