CYBLN 037: How To Dream Big And Make It Happen During Midlife

To Dream Big And Make It Happen is a theme that is mostly used to inspire the younger crowd. However, the midlife crowd are more capable of putting the pieces together to make their dream a reality. Why? They have the experience behind them.

dream big and make it happen episodeIn this episode my guest Kathy Regan Young shares with us some of her tips and tricks that she is using in pursuing her lifestyle dream.

You will be inspired by her story of being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 6 years ago and her determination to not let it hinder her from achieving her dream of being an Entrepreneur.

Her attitude is to focus on what it is she can do now that brings value to others, while putting the disease behind her where it belongs. She does this by having a very clear picture of how she envisions her life and how you too can do the same.

One of her main goals is to have geographical independence and the ability to spend serious, quality time with her husband – who is a golf pro – and her daughters .

Here are a few of the thoughts on why you should take action now:Kathy's dream big and make it happen moment

  • We all have the same prognosis …we’re all marching towards the same end
  • right now matters
  • someday might never come
  • we need to make it happen now
  • now is all we have
  • You don’t need to know it all and you don’t need to know it all today
  • Keep mindful of the prize or prizes along the way
  • Celebrate the small achievements that are leading to the big prize
  • Take time each day to visualize what your life should look like; what’s it gonna feel like when you get there

If you had a six-month window to make a decision to pursue your dream, what would be your steps in making that happen?

  • Talk with my family and share with them to get their consensus. You may not be supported but continue to talk and share your vision but do not let go of your dreams and hopes.
  • Take small actions. You’ll be seen as serious.
  • Continue to talk. Continue to share your vision

One of the questions that I ask is if she had a 6 month window to make a decision before that window closed, what steps would she take to decide how to live out her dream. Here are some of her answers:

Step 1:  Close your eyes and visualize – picture what it is you want

Step 2: Educate yourself in what you want to learn

Step 3: Learn what you need right now and then put it into action

Step 4: Make a promise to yourself that you’re going to take action

Midlife Reminders:

  • There’s no better time than at midlife to make a commitment to yourself and to life
  • You’re better prepared now than you’ve been
  • Make your happiness your priority
  • LIfe happens to you or you allow it to happen to you
  • Put the education you have acquired to make it work for you
  • Regret is a bitter pill to swallow. I’d rather regret having done something and having it not work than to not having tried
  • If I had started earlier I might have given up … midlife gives me that opportunity to do better next time
  • I could have said it but i couldn’t have lived it..
  • Midlife is a beautiful gift on how to filter information …
  • The problems that comes my way, I view them as challenges
  • Don’t squander this stage of life … the generation ahead of us so we could teach others
  • Life happens to you or you make it happen to you, but now you have some experience under your belt and you get to determine how it happens to you … you have a better idea as to where you want to go and how to get there ..
  • Put that education you’ve been acquiring to work for you and to make it happen
  • The next thing will come when you need it to come. If it’s not the right thing right now, you’ll figure it out and then go back and fix it

Final word:

  • Rededicate myself to take action … one step at a time ..
  • Don’t let go of your dream … take your dream and find a way to live it
  • Take your dream and find a way to live it.
  • Your family might not understand … fearful of what they don’t understand but Dream big, live large and make it happen
