Silent Twenty YearsHere are the 6 Reasons why it took me over 20 years to break my silence of the attempted rape

  1. Feeling ashamed
  2. Feelings of guilt
  3. Protecting reputations
  4. Fear of cultural rejection
  5. The stigma
  6. Fear of being blamed

These are just six of the many reasons why I chose to keep silent. However, in hindsight, I should have taken action to let him know that I was aware of what he was trying to do, instead of pretending I did not and should have done him some harm. I do not blame myself fot not doing it because I didn’t know what I now know.

This is my message to anyone who find themself in my situation – don’t do as I did. There are countless resources available, more awareness of the matter, and more avenues to get the report out. e.g Social Media. I also mentioned the need to forgive yourself and how to do that. Here is the link to the article that I mentioned. Click below.

What To Do When Your Past Is Haunting You

I am aware that some countries are not as aggressive in persecuting this kind of crime and so it becomes much harder. If that happens to be your situation, remember to not blame yourself and one day you can turn that mess into a message and “fight” back.
